Fire of part of the city in May, hurricane in August, tidal wave and earthquake in September. I report to you what the archives tell us about these events of 1766, a black year for the city of Foyal and its inhabitants, but also for the whole island. For this second part, we are interested in the violent hurricane that devastated the island during the night of 13 to 14 August, leaving families in mourning and in fear of famine.

Je vous rapporte ce que nous racontent les archives de ces évènements de 1766, une année noire pour la ville foyalaise et ces habitants, mais aussi pour toute l'île. Pour ce second volet, on s'intéresse au violent ouragan qui a dévasté l'île dans la nuit du 13 au 14 août laissant les familles en deuil et dans la crainte d'une famine.

I report to you what the archives tell us about these events of 1766, a black year for the city of Foyal and its inhabitants, but also for the whole island. For the first of the three episodes, I am interested in the fire that broke out in the night of 19 to 20 May in the town of Fort-Royal, leaving an entire neighbourhood in ashes.
